About
Landmark Events is a Montreal based music promoter with frequent events and promotions in Toronto, Calgary and Edmonton among others. The core of LME is their unsigned artist showcase held a few times per year in venues throughout each city.
LME showcases typically are run with the following format:
1.) Artists are selected either though LME's online application or by being contacted by a representative of the company.
2.) Accepted artists are given copies of and required to sell tickets in the days/weeks leading up to the showcase, typically a minimum of 35 tickets is required (artists not selling the minimum amount are usually still allowed to play, however their set times and lengths will be drastically changed).
3.) Artists do not receive a portion of the ticket sales, instead, the amount of tickets sold determines the set time and length allowed for the artist. Artists with the most ticket sales will receive the most desirable set time and, according to LME, will have the most access to the crowd and industry professionals in the audience. Note that LME does not guarantee there will be any industry professionals in the audience at any time.
4.) Artists can advance to semi-final and final rounds, all of which require further ticket sales, where things like recording time or other LME shows are promised.
Landmark Events has been frequently compared to the now defunct Toronto company: Supernova Promotions who was largely criticized for running a "pay to play" scam on inexperienced, unsigned artists.
