About
Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings (FACTOR) is a Canadian organization founded in 1982 with the goal of providing funding to Canadian artists. Since its creation FACTOR has merged several other organizations and has increased its budget and mandate to various other facets in the music and entertainment industries.
FACTOR's primary function is administering grants to it's members through annual or semi-annual funding programs. Artists are categorized and receive a rating based on several factors including:
1.) Total albums sold
2.) Radio charting history
3.) General award history
Artist ratings can affect the eligibility for certain funding programs and the amount of funding in others, with more successful artists being able to receive more funding than emerging artists.
FACTOR has undergone a small restructuring as of January 29th 2016 and has removed and replaced some programs including the Demo Recording program.
